DAIRY SCIENCES

Located on the hills of California's Central Coast halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles, Cal Poly University's Dairy Science Department is the largest dairy science program in the country and the only dairy science school on the West Coast.

Students in the department prepare for a wide variety of dairy-related careers, including food safety, biotechnology, veterinary medicine, dairy plant management, food chemistry and research, marketing and sales, agricultural journalism, and dairy herd management. Cal Poly graduates are in high demand throughout the country.

The school manages a dairy herd consisting of over 150 Holstein and Jersey cows, allowing students to gain practical experience in animal care and farm management under the supervision of the Dairy Science faculty. Cal Poly students also operate the program's processing plant and creamery.

To increase collaboration and innovation, the Dairy Products Technology Center brings in students and scientists from all over the world to conduct research in new product development and processes, food safety, milk components and interactions, and other issues facing agriculture today.
